The Consumer Council will be part of a joint surveillance operation with the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission to weed out the sale of expired and damaged products during this festive season.
Chief Executive, Premila Kumar, says they will work closely with the Commission to ensure traders comply with the regulations.
“We want to help FCCC by finding the breaches in the supermarkets would simply mean that consumers will get better products because we will be able to identify problem within the supermarket.”
Kumar says they will monitor all traders who sell goods and services and the surveillance will not be limited to supermarkets only.
The joint exercise will begin next week.
