The continuous release of Wolbachia mosquitoes have been received well in five communities in the Central Division.

World Mosquito Program Project Coordinator, Aminiasi Tavui says they have had a lot of support from various communities regarding these releases.

“We’ve been receiving tremendous support from communities especially my sincere thanks to those who are hosting, traps, this is one of the monitoring tools that we use, and we have been liaising with them over the months.”

Tavui says 7 more communities are left in the Central division and they’re also planning to move the initiative to the Northern divison.

“We are liaising with the Ministry on moving this project down to the North, but as we speak, we can only say that we will do phase two, which is moving down to the West.”

The releasing of the Wolbachia mosquitoes is expected to be completed by the end of March.
