Closing submissions in manslaughter trial

Aisake Vana Junior charged with one count of manslaughter had no intention of killing his younger brother.

Defense lawyer maintained this in the High Court as closing submission were heard from both parties today.

In his closing submission the defense lawyer said that Junior was acting in self-defense as his younger brother had thrown punches at him.

Defense lawyer said it was a spur of the moment which led to the death of Suliasi Waisele.

The alleged incident occurred during a fight over a bowl of dhal.

Defense lawyer further stated that on that unfortunate day Junior was already cooking dhal when his younger brother woke up and got angry saying that it was his dhal.

Meanwhile, the state in its submission said they have proven the case beyond reasonable doubt.

The state further stated that Junior was inconsistent in his caution interview and in the witness box.

The state also referred to the post mortem report which states that Waisele died of single stab wound.
