December 19, 2015 4:46 am

Seventy families of inmates who are currently serving time in Prison will receive Christmas gifts for their children this season thanks to Westpac Bank.

Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Superintendent Apimeleki Taukei says Christmas is a joyous time and children are the centre of it all.

Taukei adds at times these children do not enjoy Christmas and the festive season.

“I think the kids of those who are serving behind bars would also like to spend Christmas in a happy way. That is why for us it is a very important thing.”

Present at the gift hand over this morning was Jonetani Saurinicava, whose nephew is currently in prison. He travelled all the way from Naitasiri this morning with his two grandchildren.

He says it touches his heart to know that people have taken the time, effort and money to care for these children.
