Construction Company, China Railway 5 has for the first time spoken publicly about claims that it hasn’t paid superannuation contributions for its local employees.

The company is contracted by the Water Authority of Fiji to lay sewer pipes and water reticulation in Samabula North suburb in Suva.

Some of its local workers are alleging the company hasn’t paid their provident fund contributions.

Company Commercial Manager Charles King says there was some misunderstanding.

King denies claims the company had sent home workers for lodging complaints with the FNPF.

King says there was initially some confusion between the employment laws of China and Fiji.

However, the company has now agreed to sort out issues related to the deduction of Fiji National Provident Fund for its local employees.

China Railway 5 has pledged to pay all pending FNPF contributions dating back to the last five years.
