Career classes to be taken seriously

Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Dr. Mahendra Reddy has highlighted the importance of career classes in school curriculum.

Reddy says that most students are still not definite about the kinds of careers that are linked to their subject combinations.

The Minister says career classes need to be taken seriously by students in schools.

“In a research conducted by the career section through a survey in 2014 shows that out of 176 secondary schools that we have 72 schools responded that career classes were not taken seriously in schools also in time table schools have been utilizing career periods for other purposes for such as revision classes and subject coverage this is also the cases to some extent for music classes and other classes that are not part of the mainstream curriculum this needs to stop.”

Reddy is advising students not to let the decisions of their companions influence their decision in choosing their career.
