“They need to know that our media will amplify their voices and ensure that their voices are directly heard by us. This way we will know how citizens feel about and experience government policies and programs. Our democracy will grow from this new openness.”

The NFP leader has also extended his support to Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama however, will hold the PM to his own words.

“People must have the liberty to speak openly and candidly. In it the Government of the day listens and the media exercises its role as the messenger, a watchdog of democracy, and as an Independent Institution, responsibly asserting a right to speak with its own voice, and not merely echoing the voice of parliament or the executive government.”

The leader of the NFP believes while the house represents the return to parliamentary democracy, it remains work in progress.
