Pio Tikoduadua, Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama

Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the comments in parliament today by NFP MP, Pio Tikoduadua, against Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, reeks of personal attacks and this cannot be denied by the NFP.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the attack on the Prime Minister’s family was uncalled for and Tikoduadua had stepped out of line.

Tikoduadua this morning launched a scathing attack on Bainimarama, saying the PM should not be talking on violence against women and should be the last person talking about violence against women in this house and also should know what is happening in his own house and it is hypocritical for this matter.

He later filed a police complaint claiming he was assaulted and sworn at by Bainimarama outside of Parliament.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the comments of Tikoduadua against the family of the PM was highly unfitting for a Member of Parliament.

He says for NFP leader Professor Biman Prasad to say the comments of Tikoduadua was to do with FijiFirst and not the PM personally, is slimy and a cover-up.

Sayed-Khaiyum says there is an expected decorum and behavior in Parliament but this was disregarded by Tikoduadua, who had dragged those who were not in Parliament into the limelight.

He says the claims of Tikoduadua was questionable as witness accounts conflict these claims.

He says, when the motion on condemning Mosese Bulitavu’s racist and sexist comments, which rationalized gender violence was done, it was on the basis that is was morally and ethically wrong for a Member of Parliament to do so.

Sayed Khaiyum says at no stage did Government comment on anybody’s family or what happened in the homes of any of the Members of Parliament, despite knowing that certain individual Members of the Opposition having, or who have had, personal challenges in these areas.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the PM has already visited the Speaker of the House and the party will let the authorities including the Police carry out the investigation.
