Alleged victim in rape trial uncooperative

Suva High Court Judge Justice Vincent Perera has numerously warned the alleged rape victim to corporate with the court, in the trial of a radio announcer who is charged with one count of rape.

The girl who is in her 30s was seen not answering questions posed by the defence lawyer and had numerous times asked the court if the questions were necessary to answer.



At one stage during cross examination the girl said she was overwhelmed when the incident happened to which defence lawyer Jitendra Reddy asked what do you mean by overwhelmed.

She replied quote" I said overwhelmed. Do you want me to spell it for you?" unquote.




The Judge has warned her if she does not cooperate, she will be charged for contempt of court.

The matter continues in the Suva High Court.
