Following the success of potato farming in Nadarivatu – farmers are now being encouraged to grow off-season vegetables.
The Agriculture Ministry has set a target of three-years to achieve this.
Senior Agriculture Officer Ba – Saidi Achari says the ministry will open up new farming areas as there is a lot of plateau in Nadarivatu.
“The main purpose of this program is to target off season planting and we will link them to the market outlets. There is a lot of demand of vegetables especially for off season and Nadriravut is a very good place in terms of it receives rainfall all around the year and the temperature is very good for vegetable production.”
About 250 farmers in the programme will plant crops like carrots, zucchini, rock melon, capsicum, tomatoes, lettuce and English cabbage.
