$54K stolen in airport bank branch robbery

Police have confirmed that $54,000 in foreign currency was stolen from the ANZ Bank outlet at the Nausori Airport.

Four men wielding knives and other weapons robbed the outlet on Monday night while the bank was open for international flights.

No one was injured as the robbers threw stones and wielded knives in the attack.

Foreign currency exchange outlets have been requested to keep a look out for any persons who may act in a suspicious manner and call the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters on 3315599.

The appointed taskforce in the meantime continues its investigation.

A spokesperson from ANZ says the branch is expected to resume services tomorrow.
