Police are urging parents and guardians to be on full alert after the body of a two-year-old child was found in a river close to Nacokaika Village in Naitasiri.
The boy’s body was found by a 53-year-old man yesterday morning floating in a nearby river.
Police spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri says the child’s parents reported him missing at 3.30pm on November 12 at Viria Village, Naitasiri.
A search was carried out but to no avail.
“We are pleading with parents to look after their children especially since the holidays are just around the corner and children will be at home with them full time. Parents need to understand and be more responsible when it comes to their children’s wellbeing.”
Sokomuri says the boy’s body is at the Wainibokasi mortuary and a post-mortem will be conducted soon.
Police investigations continue.
