Necessary assistance will be provided for farmers who want to venture in commercial rice farming.

Fiji Rice Limited chairman Raj Sharma says at the moment they will be providing assistance through seedling and land preparation.

Sharma says farmers can also get seeds of the newly introduced varieties.

“These varieties of seeds will be provided for the farmers on the condition that they harvest two crops in a year. These varieties are also sustainable on the dry land, so farmers will be able to plant on the dry land and supply to us.”

Sharma says this is done to revive rice farming in the country.

He says idle land can now be used by farmers to plant the newly introduced varieties for a better yield.
