Fiji’s transition to cleaner and more sustainable transport has gained momentum, with FMFEV NewEnergy sending two representatives to China for specialised Electric Vehicle training.

The initiative marks a major step in the country’s move toward electric mobility – one that will strengthen national capacity to adopt clean transport technologies and reduce reliance on imported fuel.

Participants Viliame Denicagi Cikamatana and Mohammed Muaz Shameer have begun training under experts at the China Intelligent Electric Vehicle Centre. The programme covers EV systems, maintenance, charging infrastructure and renewable energy integration – all essential components for a sustainable transport future.

FMF Group of Companies Managing Director and CEO, Sanjay Punja, says the training represents the start of a long-term effort to build regional expertise in electric mobility.

“Our participation in this training signifies the start of something transformative for the Pacific. The knowledge gained in China will directly contribute to building capacity and preparing our Pacific for the EV revolution,” Mr Punja said.

He added that the initiative sets the groundwork for a self-sustaining ecosystem of clean, efficient and intelligent transport solutions across island nations.

Developing homegrown expertise in electric transport is expected to open new opportunities for Fiji through job creation, reduced carbon emissions and greater investment in renewable energy and EV infrastructure.

As the global shift to clean energy gathers pace, Fiji’s progress signals a firm commitment to innovation and sustainability – positioning the nation as a Pacific leader in advancing cleaner, smarter transport.
