The jump from domestic rugby to the national environment has brought a new level of discipline for Army halfback Suluka Tunaka, as he continues to find his footing in camp.
From stricter routines to higher expectations, the transition has tested the young playmaker, but also accelerated his development alongside some of Fiji’s top sevens players.
Training intensity, structure and professionalism have all been key differences as he adjusts to the step up.
“There are a lot of changes compared to club rugby, especially in training. Everything here is stricter, especially with timing.”
Tunaka says the opportunity to train with experienced players has been a major learning curve.
“I’m happy to be training with these household names, especially Terio Tamani. I’ve learned a lot from being here.”
His journey to this level has taken him through multiple teams, including Nadroga, Northland, Uluinakau and the FSC Grassroots competitions, before earning his chance with Army Rugby this year.
“This year I joined the Army side, and now I’m here. I want to thank the Army for giving me the opportunity.”
He adds that his focus now is to keep improving and make the most of the opportunity in front of him.
