July 21, 2016 5:40 pm

Veterinarians are key professionals in providing essential services ranging from farm and wild animal practice, working with the food industry on food safety and health issues.

This was highlighted by Minister for Agriculture Inia Seruiratu while celebrating World Veterinary day in collaboration with FNU open day in Koronivia yesterday.

“Many countries have recently been experiencing several disease outbreaks, including zoonotic diseases which are a great threat to humans. Society expectations of the vet profession have therefore been changing rapidly. The public is now pressing for greater transparency and accountability. The Government through the division of veterinary services embarks on safe guiding animal health and welfare and ensuring food safety and protection of public health at the same time.”
