NFP Leader lashes out at the Prime Minister

July 29, 2016 9:44 pm

National Federation Party leader Biman Prasad says the Sugar Industry will not survive unless the Government puts strategic measures in place.

He says the government should guarantee a minimum price of $90 a tonne for the next three years.

“Even if the total cane production reaches 2 million tonnes it will still be possible within 30 million to provide $90 per ton guaranteed minimum price.”

Prasad also noted that the government should stop politicizing the sugar industry. His comments came after the Prime Minister made statements about him spreading rumors.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has been holding consultations with cane farmers, clarifying amendments to the Sugar Bills and listening to grievances this week.
