The public will be briefed on how important the ban is on ‘Kawakawa’ and ‘Donu’ for the next three months before the spawning period.

Fisheries Officer Meli Raicebe says the awareness campaign will begin next month.

Raicebe says the campaign will not only be undertaken by the ministry but other stakeholders as well.

He says the Fishing Association will speak on their behalf to those who live in the outer islands.

“These are association that are based in the outer island that would closely with the ministry so basically we will use this association to raise awareness and also help them to teach fishers within their community on the important of sustaining these two species during spawning season”

Raicebe is advising the public not to take this initiative lightly and comply so that it benefits the next generation.
