Agricultural commercial farming should be sustainable as the government will not continuously help farmers.

This was a statement made by the Agriculture Minister Dr. Mahendra Reddy while visiting farmers in the Central Division today.

Dr. Reddy says the government can help farmers to begin commercial farming and it’s on the farmers to ensure that it is sustainable.

“No business can continuously ask the government for support, cant! If the government keeps on pouring money then how is the government going to sustain that, you treat your agriculture as a business.”

Dr. Reddy says the ministry is currently working to ensure farmers have access to farm roads, have proper farm drainage systems and relevant equipment such as chain saws to be hired from the ministry to help farmers.

He adds the ministry is working closely with farmers in trying to meet the demands of farm and livestock produce locally and internationally.
