The Government’s response plan to absorb the 22.5 per cent bus fare increase will create positive multiplier effects.

Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation Chief Executive Edward Bernard says this ensures workers can commute without additional financial burden, allowing business operations to continue with minimal disruption.

This provides relief to 350,000 commuters, including families with school children, and thousands of businesses dependent on public transport for workers and customers.

Bernard notes that while this costs the government $2 million per month, it keeps factories and offices open and maintains demand for goods and services, contributing to consumption and state revenue.

FCEF acknowledges that this relief package is on top of the existing 10 per cent bus fare subsidy.

The FCCC approved the fare adjustment to help operators manage rising fuel and operational costs, which takes effect on Tuesday.
