McKee says he had a healthy discussion with Rowland.

‘I sat in with the Head Coaches just going through the various processes for the tournament and particularly from Head of Referee Allan Rowland just re-emphasizing all the key factors that we need to be quite aware of’.

World Cup referees’ boss Alain Rolland warned that officials would be more rigorous than ever in penalising high tackles at the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Rolland said that he was aware of fears that an excessive clampdown could “potentially have a negative impact” on rugby’s global showpiece, with the possibility that red cards could decide the winner.

The Flying Fijians take on Australia at 4:45pm this Saturday followed by France and Argentina at 7:15pm before the All Blacks meet South Africa and 9:45pm.

The World Cup kicks off on Friday with hosts Japan playing Russia at 10:45pm.
