Laqere and Khan to represent Fiji at FIFA World Cup

Two Fijians have departed our shores for Russia this morning to represent Fiji at the 2018 FIFA World Cup as part of the football for friendship programme.

12-year old Elizabeth Laqere of Saraswati Manoca Primary School and 12-year-old Hayyaan Khan of Ba will join children from 211 countries to attend the sixth annual F4F programme.

Laqere says this will be an eye-opener for her as she always dreamt of becoming a football player in the near future.

“My dream is to play for Fiji and hopefully, win a scholarship where I can study and play football. My interest started while accompanying my grandmother to watch my uncles Iosefo Verevou and Epeli Saukuru play.”

Laqere is accompanied by her grandmother Anaseini Watu while Khan with his father Mobin Khan.

They will also be part of the FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony in Moscow.

The Friendship for Football programme will take place in Moscow, Russia on June 8-15 ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
