Fiji Airways men’s 7s captain Jerry Tuwai has been nominated for the World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year.

Tuwai was nominated alongside Australia’s Ben O’Donnell and 2017 winner Perry Baker of USA.

He led the Fijian side to win five titles in the 2017/2018 season.

Tuwai debuted for the national 7s side at the 2014 Gold Coast 7s.

The 29-year-old has been an instrumental player in the national squad.

He took over the captaincy role following the departure of former captain Osea Kolinisau for an overseas contract last year.

Meanwhile, no Fijian player has ever won the Sevens Player of the Year since 2014.

Samisoni Viriviri won the award that year.

The winner will be announced at the World Rugby awards ceremony in November.
