Fiji Sports Media Association in mourning

The Fiji Sports Media Association, is saddened to hear the untimely passing of one of Fiji’s best sports journalists, Maciu Malo.

He was one of the senior sports journalists of The Fiji Times at the time of his death and his passing has left a vacuum in sports reporting in Fiji.

42-year-old Malo, died at the Lautoka Hospital after a short illness.

He is renowned for his sports reporting ability which included in-depth sports coverage, feature writing and daily sports news collation and dissemination.

Spanning for more than a decade, Malo’s experience included international sporting tournament coverage such as the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, and had travelled to several tournaments in the World Rugby Sevens Series.

Fiji Sports Media Association President Maikeli Seru says Malo may be gone from their sight, but never from their hearts.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Football Association has expressed its joins his sympathy to the Fiji Times and Malo’s family.

Patel acknowledged the supreme contribution by Malo in the football arena.

Head coach Christophe Gamel says it was a shocking news.

Malo was a nominee for the 2017 Vodafone Fiji FA Media Personality of the Year Award and always supported in the development of football with positive reporting.

He is survived by his wife and his three daughters.
