Fiji 7s faces easy path

November 21, 2012 5:55 pm

The Digicel Fiji 7s rugby side could face a relatively easy path in the quarter-finals of the Dubai tournament.

The team, which should finish within the top two in its group, could face either one of France, Australia, Canada or the USA in the last eight.

Fiji last won in Dubai in 1998 when the IRB World Series was not formed and since then has only reached the finals at the Arab state five times, losing on all occasions.

Meanwhile, South Africa has lost star Cecil Afrika for Dubai.

He has not yet recovered from the niggling knee injury he sustained at the season-opening Gold Coast Sevens and was therefore not considered for selection

Fiji is pooled with Kenya, Scotland and Spain for the Dubai 7s and the first match is against Spain at 6.50pm on Friday week.
