As the Fiji Airways Men’s National Sevens begin their campaign at the Oktoberfest 7s in Germany next week, coach Gareth Baber is looking forward to the challenge other teams will bring.

Baber says this tournament in Munich is a huge opportunity for the new players.

The national team finished as runners up last year after a 40-7 hammering from Australia.

“We’re not going to think we can walk into a tournament. We want to be part of that tournament, we want teams to come up and really challenge us as well. We will look at it as a team perspective to really ensure we can keep that talent, right on the boil all the time when we need it to.”

Coach Gareth Baber has been keeping a close watch on the fitness of players.

He adds the new boys are showing great work ethic in training.

“We’ve already been working for the last 5-6 weeks. They are doing something slightly that they’ll do in season. It’s necessary for them to build all that strength you see in the field that comes from weeks and months in the gym. Some of the boys that were in that process have come out.”

Fiji is in Group B with Germany, France and USA.

Its first pool match is against the USA.

The team depart our shores tomorrow for Germany.
