Women alleged to have assisted escapee bailed

Two women who allegedly assisted Deshwar Dutt to escape from lawful custody pleaded not guilty in the Nadi Magistrates court.

Dutt’s wife 32-year-old Shivani Vikashni Sami and his lawyer Adi Litia Vereivalu Vateitei who have each been charged with one count of aiding a prisoner to escape were produced in a special court sitting today.

It is alleged that between 1st February 2017 and 15th December 2017, the two aided Deshwar Kishore Dutt to escape from lawful custody.

Divisional Prosecuting officer SSP Anil Kumar objected to their bail application however the two have been released on $1000 bail each with surety in the same amount.

Sami has been ordered to report to the Nausori Police station every Wednesday and Friday while Vateitei has been ordered to report at the Nadi Police station every Wednesday and Friday.

A stop departure has also been placed against Sami and Vateitei.
They have been ordered not to come into contact with Dutt and not to
re-offend.

The matter will be re-called on 12th February.

Meanwhile, Dutt escaped from the Nadi Magistrates court two weeks ago.
