The Fiji Navy will be sending a junior officer to study at the United States Naval Academy next year.
This comes as the US Navy is working with its Fijian counterpart to improve their relationship in the education sector.
US Navy Under Secretary, Thomas Modly says this will also allow the two countries to develop military relationships.
“So the mid-shipman will be going to school with people who ten to fifteen, twenty years from now will be the senior leaders in the United States Navy. From my perspective you’ll pick a very well qualified candidate. That candidate will make a lot of friends while they are there and these friendships will continue and that is critical to maintaining the partnerships.”
Modly says it will be a four-year program at the US Naval Academy.
