The iTaukei Land Trust Board have stated they will not consider any lease application or development on the land known as Bonatoa which belongs to Suvavou Village.

This comes after Landowners made claims on social media that TLTB is taking over their land without their consent.

However, TLTB Chief Executive Tevita Kuruvakadua confirms they do not have any intention to issue any lease on the land in question.

Kuruvakadua says they don’t know what were the landowner’s intention in creating such a scene that was broadcasted live on Facebook claiming that TLTB is taking over their land.

According to TLTB, the land in question was first schemed some years ago with the request from the Ministry of Local Government for the formalization of squatter settlements.

This work was stopped due to the landowner’s show of disagreement.

The same piece of land was leased out to a bus company but was later withdrawn due to internal bickering and frequent threats from the mataqali.
