Thousands of people yesterday celebrated Fiji Day in Sydney, Australia with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Speaking at the celebration, Bainimarama says that no matter where he has gone, he has always shared the same feeling of unity and joy with Fijian families.

He says that seeing the smiling faces of Fijians of all ages and backgrounds, dressed in Fiji blue and singing the national anthem is a feeling that can’t be bought and those moments rank among his most treasured as Prime Minister.

Bainimarama adds that many Fijians who resettled in Sydney and throughout Australia did so because they didn’t see a future for themselves in Fiji.

He says that this is no longer the case as the spirit of optimism that is sweeping the nation is something they can only truly understand when they experience it for themselves.

Meanwhile there are currently over 50,000 Fijians living in Australia.
