Prepare for flooding: Weatherman

December 12, 2016 11:50 pm

The heavy rains predicted by the Nadi Weather office could cause flooding in low lying and flood prone areas and those living in these areas have been urged to prepare themselves accordingly.

Fiji Meteorological Director Ravin Kumar says it’s important to be ready as the low pressure to the north of Fiji will bring in a lot of rain over the next 24 hours.

“It’s wise to start preparing should the heavy rain continue and there is an instance of flooding, they would be in a better position to move to the nearest safe places.”

Kumar says there are also chances of creeks and streams flooding.

The Weather office issued a heavy rain alert this morning due to a low pressure to the north of Fiji.

The low pressure system is predicted to develop into a tropical depression by tomorrow but Kumar says chances of it becoming a tropical cyclone over Fiji waters are very low.
