Police working on installing dashcam on official vehicles

June 5, 2018 1:25 am

The Police Force is looking at ways to upgrade and use new technology on its new vehicles to improve efficiency and safety.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra says they have already installed Global Positioning systems or GPS in the vehicles – a satellite-based radio navigation system that provides geolocation and time information.

Mishra says there may even be a possibility of installing dashboard cameras on the new police vehicles.

“Also as far as dash cams and other technology is concerned, yes we will do all our best to ensure that we have a strict monitoring mechanism in place whilst the government of the day has given us so much capabilities and we will ensure that we set up a right platform of our officers to ensure they do not fall on the other side of the fence.”

A dashcam is an onboard camera that continuously records the view through a vehicle’s windscreen and may even gather evidence during traffic stops and car chases.

Mishra says the Force maintains they will be strict on driver’s attitudes and ensure officers driving official vehicles remain an exemplary role models to other road users.
