SODELPA refrains from Bulitavu debate, remains mum

Leader of Opposition and SODELPA’s Sitiveni Rabuka says they will not partake in the debate regarding Mosese Bulitavu.

He adds they will neither vote on the matter as they did not want pre-empt possible legal proceedings.

The debate followed a motion moved by Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, in Parliament yesterday afternoon to strongly condemn the statements made or published by Mosese Bulitavu in the media, including social media.

This is related to Bulitavu having called the Indo-Fiji community vulagi’s and also that their way of handling the dispute by killing and stabbing has been picked up by the i-taukei community.

He had also called the certain Indo-Fijian women unfaithful and that i-Taukei, assaults on women were common, given their built.

Rabuka says Bulitavu is under investigation by the Police for a possible breach of the Public Order Act.

He says with the investigation still ongoing, which will decide on whether further action will be taken by the Office of the Director of the Public Prosecution.

Rabuka says they do not want to usurp the work of Police and DPP and they as a party collectively have decided not to participate in the debate as this will prejudice the right of Bulitavu if charges are laid against him.
