New fire station for Korolevu soon

April 10, 2015 1:12 am

A new fire station will soon be constructed at Korolevu, Sigatoka with the aim of helping prevent devastating loss of life and property along the coral coast.

At the ground breaking ceremony this morning, Local Government Minister Praveen Bala says the region has witnessed and experienced some huge fires like the one at Korolevu Hotel, Naviti Resort, Natavora and at the Warwick Resort.

He says the hotels suffered major damage since there was no fire station within the vicinity of the hotels and by the time fire teams from Sigatoka reach the scene, there has already some damage done to the property.

Bala says when the new fire station is opened in Sepetmber 2015, firefighters who will be based there will work closely with businesses and communities to identify and proactively control and mitigate any fire risk.

The fire station will house two fire and road accident vehicles and an ambulance.
