Chaudhry files strike out application

November 23, 2019 5:56 am

New Zealand based lawyer Rajendra Chaudhry has filed to strike out the application made by the Chief Registrar.

The application was made through instructions by his lawyer yesterday before the Independent Legal Services Commission.

The Chief Magistrate had earlier made an application stating that Chaudhry had conducted himself in an unprofessional manner because he made references to the judiciary of Fiji in a comment on social media site Facebook last year.

In court yesterday, Chaudhry’s lawyer informed the court that his client in his application also stated that the court did not have any jurisdiction to hear this complaint by the Chief Registrar.

Chaudhry’s lawyer has been given time to file written submissions outlining why and how the high court rules apply to the matter.

The case has been adjourned to February 28th next year.
