Bainimarama lambasts people stealing from victims

August 7, 2018 6:33 pm

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says it’s despicable, cruel and unacceptable for anyone to take advantage of another who is going through tragedy.

Bainimarama was referring to reports that people were involved in stealing from the seven who died and others who were injured in the deadly crash in Nabou, Sigatoka on Saturday.

He says at the scene of the horrific crash, some stooped so low as to dig through the pockets and steal possessions of the victims, even taking the boots off the feet of the victims.

And unfortunately, this isn’t the first time we have witnessed such evils.

This behavior is despicable, it is cruel, and it is unacceptable.

Bainimarama has also hit out at those who took to the social media to publish photos and videos of the accident.

He says some individuals were irresponsible as to post images of the deceased on Facebook, and also The Fiji Times newspaper for posting video of a grieving child who had just learned of the death of his loved ones.

Bainimarama is urging all Fijians to treat each other as family and not think of the ‘likes’ on Facebook.

He is reminding all to put the phone down, and lend a helping hand, or offer prayers and words of support.
