Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has revealed that there have been attempts by some Government Ministries to resist the Open Merit Based Recruitment system.

The system was one of the major Civil Service reforms which is aimed at appointing employees based on their ability to do the job.

Sayed-Khaiyum says while some ministries have embraced the changes whole heartedly, others including the Education Ministry have resisted the OMRS system.

“The Ministry of Education itself took about six to nine months within the administration to actually roll it out as they resisted it, so it is incorrect to say there is no consultations.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says reforms in the Civil Service should not be politicized and each profession and every subject area needs to be dealt with in an apolitical manner.
