Hayne relishes Fiji halfback role

June 20, 2018 6:02 pm

Fiji Bati star Jarryd Hayne says he’s excited to pull on the number seven jersey for the first time in his NRL representative career.

This was after Hayne was named in the Fiji Bati’s halfback role to take on the PNG Kumuls this Saturday.

In Hayne’s 205 NRL games with Parramatta and the Gold Coast Titans, plus his nine Tests for Fiji, he has never donned the No.7 jersey – playing mainly fullback, but also five-eighth, centre and wing.

Hayne told NRL.com that he is ready to put take on the challenge in his new role.

“I haven’t worn the number 7 jersey ever and I’ve worn any number in the backline so it’s a good experience for me now. But six and seven are pretty much the same some and Henry we play very similar.”

Hayne says he’s ready to team up with Henry Raiwalui in the back whom they formed a great combination in the 2017 Rugby league World Cup campaign.

Fiji takes on PNG at 6pm on Saturday while Tonga will take on Samoa at 9.10pm.
