Alleged rapist who pleaded guilty wants to change plea

A 26-year-old man who earlier admitted to rape and sexual assault charges today informed the court that he wants to change his plea.

Manasa Ratuloaloa appeared in the Suva High Court today.

The Judge stated that the accused person’s lawyer needs to make a proper application.

Due to Ratuloaloa’s earlier guilty plea, the trial date set was vacated.

A new trial date has to be set.

Ratuloaloa is charged with one count each of abduction of a person under eighteen-years with intent to have carnal knowledge, wrongful confinement, indecently annoying a person, assault with intent to commit rape, rape, criminal trespass, and assault.

It is alleged that on January 25th last year, Ratuloaloa allegedly raped a twelve-year-old girl and tried to run her over with his car.

The case has been adjourned to 15th September.

The accused is further remanded.
