Tax revenue collected over the years has contributed significantly to national development and improving the wellbeing of Fijians, according to the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service.
Speaking at the National Tax Day celebration, FRCS Chief Executive Udit Singh says taxes continue to fund essential services and support government efforts in areas such as healthcare, education, infrastructure and crime prevention.
The event was held under the theme “Tax Power: Fueling Fiji’s Future and Building Our Better Tomorrow.”
Singh says taxation remains a key pillar in building a stronger and more resilient Fiji.
“Taxation funds essential services that improve the lives of our people, including healthcare, education, infrastructure, water protection, law enforcement and social support programmes. These investments strengthen Fiji’s resilience and help secure a prosperous future for all.”
Also speaking at the event, Acting Counsellor at the Australian High Commission Rebecca Brown reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to supporting Fiji’s tax administration through long-standing bilateral cooperation.
“Through our bilateral programmes, we have worked closely with Fiji to improve public financial management and support legislative reforms that promote fairness, transparency and economic growth.”
Brown says the partnership between FRCS and the Australian Taxation Office continues to focus on strengthening areas such as compliance, corporate services, information technology and support to the CEO’s office.
Singh adds National Tax Day also highlights the shared responsibility of taxpayers in contributing towards the country’s growth and development.
