FCCC CEO should resign: NFP

September 5, 2018 1:03 am

The National Federation Party says Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission Chief Executive Joel Abraham is biased in his role and should resign.

This follows Abraham’s statements made to FBC News that questions were asked on some political parties making false promises about making drastic reduction in food prices if they are elected to run the country after the 2018 General Election.

Abraham in a recorded interview had said he would like to have a magic formula for such a promise, which has not gone down well with NFP.

NFP leader, Professor Biman Prasad says Abraham should immediately resign claiming he is showing blatant political bias towards the current government.

Prasad says NFP is the only party that has in the last 14 months publicly announced it will reduce the cost of living by removing VAT from 15 basic food items as well as reducing duty on them and other selected essential goods.

He says Abraham did not name anyone but is indirectly pointing a finger towards NFP.

He adds that Abraham should not meddle into political matters as he is paid by the taxpayers.

Abraham could not be reached for a comment as he is away overseas.
