Only urgent matters to be heard in Court

April 6, 2020 6:13 am

All courts and tribunals across Fiji will now only deal with urgent matters until the 17th of April.

A statement from Acting Chief Justice Kamal Kumar confirms that no civil, criminal, family, or tribunal matters will be heard or called during this period.

This includes mentions, reviews, pre-trial conferences or any other reason.

All matters are to be adjourned for mention dates in May, not exceeding 5 cases per day.

Lawyers will be informed of the new dates by the Court Registry and are not required to be present in court.

Senior Court Officers and Judicial Officers will exercise discretion in determining whether a matter is urgent.

All Court Registries will operate with very limited staff so that the public is not denied access to Court.
