Fijians feeling flu-like symptoms are to visit a fever clinic or call 158 the toll-free helpline for COVID-19.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says every Fijian who gets themselves screened on the streets or tested at a fever clinic is a true patriot.

Bainimarama says in Lautoka, over 30,000 Fijians have been screened for fevers through temperature checks and in-person outreach.

“Come next week, if we don’t see our fever testing numbers go dramatically up, and we don’t see the numbers of our curfew and quarantine violations go dramatically down, we will initiate a nationwide 24-hour curfew.”

The PM also stressed that Fijians are to only access essential services during this time.

“If you’re not going to work, buying food, getting money or accessing an essential service, stay at home. Otherwise, we will bring in the military and police to lock down all of Fiji –– it’s that simple.”

He says they will throw every dollar into their effort even if it means directing every police officer to force people to stay in their homes as the Government cannot win this war alone.

The PM says everyone needs to take responsibility for our nationwide response.
