Sele says the work starts as a team of Fijian and New Zealand Government officials visited the island last week.

He says the people of Cikobia were strongly encouraged at a village meeting to use government assistance wisely and to take the initiative to do what they can.

The headman says they have also prioritised the cleaning and repairs of toilets knowing that proper sanitation is important in times like these.

People have also moved from evacuation centres and are living in their make shift homes as repair work continues.
