Candidates contesting the Local Government Elections will not have to declare their assets and liabilities.
This, amongst other issues, was highlighted during a Local Government Elections workshop held this morning in Suva.
Fijian Elections Office Manager Legal, Mesake Dawai also outlined other differences between Local Government and National elections during the session.
He said unlike the 1000 signatures required for independent candidates in the National Polls, only 8 was needed for Municipal Elections.
Dawai said the same applied for political party candidates vying in the Local Government Polls.
He also said there would be no media blackout period and campaigning could continue until voting day.
Dawai explained there would be no postal voting, however, assisted voting would be allowed and persons with disabilities could bring a person of their choice to assist them on voting day.
He also said the $10,000 donation cap would apply to candidates from political parties, however, there would be no limit for independent candidates.
Dawai said candidates contesting the Local Government Polls, must not be dual citizenship holders, cannot be persons who were declared bankrupt, cannot be convicted of an offense and handed a 12 month or more sentence.
Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa had earlier this year stated that Municipal Council Elections will be held in September this year.
