Army boxing head coach Alfred Ledua says his team has delivered a strong performance so far in the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl, but he expects them to lift the intensity when the gloves come back on for the final day of boxing today.

Ledua says their squad has entered this year’s Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl boxing showdown not relying on big names or seasoned fighters, but on the hard work they have put in throughout the past month.

He says the preparation has been brutal, honest and focused—exactly what he wanted from a team hungry to prove themselves.

“For our boxers, only one thing I can say and that’s hard work beats talent. We are not working with famous boxers, we don’t have any boxer returning from the world championship or the golden gloves tournament. So we stick with our motto and most importantly our bible verse from James 4:10 which says humble yourself before the Lord and he will lift you up.”

He adds that his group of boxers has impressed with their discipline and grit over the first two days, and he is anticipating a fierce and thrilling finish when they step into the ring for the final clashes tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Sukuna Bowl continues into day three today with netball, volleyball and rugby league.

The men’s soccer tomorrow and men’s and women’s rugby on Friday will be held at Subrail Park in Labasa and will air LIVE on FBC Sports.
