Bail denied for 16 charged with sedition

The Lautoka High Court has rejected a bail review application made by 16 people from Nadroga who are charged with sedition and urging communal antagonism.

In his ruling Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe said the three motions brought before the court by applicant Ratu Tevita Makutu to review the Magistrates ruling on the 17thAugust not to grant them bail, did not have any special facts or circumstances to justify a review.

Justice Rajasinghe said the 16 have the option to appeal his decision at the Fiji Court of Appeal or file a fresh bail application.

Justice Rajasinghe will renew the remand warrant for the 16 on the 8th of October and set a date for mention on the 14th of October before udge Justice Paul Madigan.

The 16 accused have been further remanded in custody until the 8 th of October.
