The elevation of Fiji in the global stage as leaders in Oceania is a direct reflection of the economic, social and the political stability of the government.
While responding to the 2019/2020 National Budget, Youth and Sports Minister Parveen Kumar say this will help Fiji expand its role in the regional and global sporting stage.
Kumar says his ministry welcomes the budget allocation.
“This includes funding of over $4million for the preparation and the hosting of the international tournament in a diverse range of sports, this includes the key event such as the 2019 Rugby World Cup, HSBC 7s Series, 2020 Paralympics qualifiers, Football U16 Qualifiers, 2020 World Bowl Championship, and the 2020 Olympics.”
Kumar says they have also welcomed the $3.1m for hosting events such as football, netball, surfing, and rugby in the coming year.
He adds that it is important to note that the government has helped invest in varieties of sports in the country for Fijians to take part in.
