There is currently no wage regulation order for the Maritime industry.

While addressing women during the inaugural Day for Women in Maritime celebration yesterday, Transport Minister, Jone Usamate says this will be considered under the review of the National Minimum Wage.

“As they review the National Minimum Wage, they also develop one for this sector because currently, for your sector, you just come under the National Minimum wage and it does not take into account the different types of jobs that you have in the industry and establishing minimum terms and conditions for them.”

Usamate says they will also ensure that wages of every worker in the maritime sector suits their job description.

The Maritime industry has recorded an increase in the number of women joining the ranks with 70 so far this year.
