Prominent Suva lawyer Shazran Abdul Lateef

Prominent Suva lawyer Shazran Abdul Lateef who is facing theft charges has been released on strict bail conditions by the Suva Magistrates court.

Lateef has two other drug-related matters pending before the court.

It is alleged that during a raid at his residence on 23rd of last month Lateef was found in possession of 1.2 grams of marijuana.

During the same raid, it’s alleged that stolen mobile phones and the tablets were discovered by police.

Lateef has been granted bail on $5000 cash bail with sureties in the same sum.

The Magistrate has even ordered the two sureties to surrender their passport to the court registry.

The two sureties include a businessman and a travel consultant.

Lateef has been ordered not to re-offend and to report to Totogo Police Station every Tuesday between 8am to 4pm.

A travel ban has also been placed on him.

Meanwhile, one of Lateef’s file in relation to a drug case has been sent to the Office of the Director of Public

Prosecution for withdrawal of charges.

Lateef’s lawyer, Filimoni Vosarogo informed the court that Co-counsel Devenesh Sharma had written to DPP in October to withdraw the charges.

Lateef has pleaded not guilty to the two counts of theft.

The matter has been adjourned to 25th April.
